Data Privacy Notice

This notice applies to user interactions with the Geological Survey Ireland's Interactive Web Data Delivery System (IWDDS) Portal at: https://jetstream.gsi.ie/iwdds/map.jsp

The Geological Survey Ireland takes your privacy seriously and we are fully committed to keeping your information private.

Our Data Privacy Notice is provided to fulfil our obligations under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), effective from 25 May 2018, which requires greater accountability and transparency from organisations with regard to your personal information, and which gives you greater control over how we use it.

Our Data Privacy Notice explains how and when we collect personal data from and about you, why we do so and how we treat this information. It also explains your rights in relation to the collection of personal information and how you can exercise those rights.

We may change this Notice from time to time so please check this page occasionally to ensure that you're happy with any changes. By using our website, you're agreeing to be bound by this Notice.

Any questions regarding our Notice and our privacy practices should be sent by email to Jetstream@gsi.ie or by writing to IWDDS Manager, Geological Survey Ireland, Beggars Bush, Haddington Road, Dublin 4, D04 K7X4. Alternatively, you can telephone 01 678 2764.

Cookie Policy

To make our website work properly, we place a small data file called a “cookie“ on your device.

What is a cookie?
A cookie is a small text file that a website stores on your computer or mobile device when you visit the site. It enables the website to remember your actions and select the data you want to download (such as area of interest, data type etc). The cookie is active for a single visit to our site.

First-party cookies are cookies set by the website you're visiting. Only that website can read them. In addition, a website might potentially use external services, which also set their own cookies, known as third-party cookies. We only use a first-party cookie.

Persistent cookies are cookies that are saved on your computer and are not deleted automatically when you quit your browser, unlike a session cookie, which is deleted when you quit your browser. We only use a session cookie.

How do we use cookies?
We only use a first-party cookie. The cookie is set and controlled by the Geological Survey Ireland, not by any external organisations.

You can delete or block the cookie, but if you do that, the site will not work.

Strictly necessary cookie
This cookie is required to use our website. For this reason, it does not require your consent.

Purpose: It is used for session tracking. Since HTTP is a stateless protocol, there is no way for Web server to relate two separate requests coming from the same client. Session management is a process to track user using cookies. If a Web server is using a cookie for session management, it creates and sends JSESSIONID cookie to the client who sends it back to the server in subsequent HTTP requests.
Cookie type and duration: First-party session cookie, deleted after you quit your browser.

Any questions regarding our Data Privacy Notice and Cookie Policy should be sent by email to Jetstream@gsi.ie or by writing to IWDDS Manager, Geological Survey Ireland, Beggars Bush, Haddington Road, Dublin 4, D04 K7X4. Alternatively, you can telephone 01 678 2764.
